Governor DeWitt Clinton:
Governor DeWitt was a politician, not an engineer. He was born in 1769 and died in 1828. He only broke the ground for the construction of the Erie Canal. During the construction of the Erie Canal people mocked him, and called it “DeWitt’s Ditch.” People didn’t realize that it would be one of the biggest parts of trading, and transporting. DeWitt Clinton was the Governor of New York from 1817 to 1822. He was Senator of the United States from 1802 to 1803. |
